Sounds like she's just trying to get out of a little extra work - many women even participate in sports during their periods because that can make them feel better. I think the claim about bleeding more is false - try it out sometime. Then again, if she has a condition that makes her periods very painful, certain activities might make her more uncomfortable. If it's only for those few days, I would go easy on her. But on the bright side, if you're doing part of her job during her period, it's only fair that she should pick up some of your duties in return when your cycle comes around.
