A Question of Procedure (Just Curious)

Hi everyone! This is certainly not a major medical question, but I nevertheless wished to pose it to the forum. I am 28 and unfortnately have had to change gynecologists. Recently, I went to my first exam, and the nurse practitioner (who was both female and unfriendly :-(, I believe even abrupt) told me to take off everything including socks. I'm not entirely sure why this was necessary (nor did I have the courage to ask ). Plus, my previous doctor always encouraged her patients to wear socks, which makes it all the more strange to me. I can't think of any purpose this would serve aside from making the situation more humiliating. As a woman who dreads her "yearly visits," I always felt the socks made me feel a little less naked. I certainly know woman health care professionals understand this, so I can't help but think that there may be a medical reason behind this, although I don't recall my feet being a part of the exam. I guess it really doesn't amount to anything in the grand scheme of things, and perhaps it is rather foolish to ask, but I was curious. If anyone knows, or even has an idea, I would be grateful to hear.

Many thanks,

--
Sara
