Ortho Cyclen, Endometriosis and significant weight gainFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Aug 2003 16:02:56 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with moderate to severe endometriosis in 2000, after an emergency surgery for a hemmorhage. Since then, doctors have experimented with types of birth control to control the endo. Ortho-tri-cyclen was among those I couldn't tolerate. Since 2001, I have been taking ortho cyclen exclusively. Over time, I did gain a small amount of weight: about 6 pounds on my 5'4" frame, but I was tolerant of it considering the pain of the hemmorhage. In the last four months, however, I have gained nearly 20 pounds, even though I continue to work out at least twice a week and have not changed my eating habits. I am on no other prescriptions, and my doctor is out of the country until late Nov. The question: Is this something that I should seek medical attention about quickly, or should I wait for my doctor to see me, since he knows my medical history? Oh, and I have been abstinent, so perish the thought of the usual reason for a rapid weight gain! Thank you
