irregular periods from prescription medicationsFrom: G (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Aug 2003 14:17:01 -0500 (CDT)
Hello... i was hoping someone can shed some light regarding this situation. My daughter is 20, virgin, has never had a problem with her periods (started at age 13), except for the usual cramps and moodiness until this last June. She had a normal period on June 22. She started taking Trimox on June 21 due to strep throat. She had an allergic reaction (hives) stopped taking the Trimox.. went to the doctor was given a Cortisone? shot for the hives and a 5 day prescription for Prednisone..Hives went away but not totally, was given another 10 day prescription of Prednisone.. During this time she also took Motrin for pain and Alegra and Benadryl. Knowing all this she was due to have her period on or about July 22.. She was late about a week, got her period which then lasted for 10 days. She stopped and about a week later got a period again on August 14th...stopped on August 20 and now she got her period again ( August 27. ) She is totally frustrated with this and is becoming concerned as am I. Could all those medications she was taking have this effect on her cycle?. If so how long should it take before she becomes regular again?. She is not on any medicines now and does not take BCP's... Can anyone help us?. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks
