12yr old first menstrual cycle- produced skin abbrasion/irritation??From: Dana (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 13 Aug 2003 02:07:21 -0500 (CDT)
My 12 year old daughter started her first menstrual cycle the 28th of July. Now this past week she has what looks like an abrasion of some sort just inside the opening of her vagina ? Just smaller in diameter then a dime. and It is very painful for her. She says it burns now. She had some itching there before the she noticed the sore. It looks like maybe it could of been a rash of some sort that was irritated with scratching and then became inflamed. As if you were to scrape your knee and as it starts to heal it looks like that would if you had a bandaide on and it got moisture in it. She is not and never has been sexually active. Is it possible to have this happen with a FIRST cycle? She has very sensative skin, could her body changes have produced something to trigger this and what can I do for her? I have never seen or heard of this in association with a cycle before not a very first one. Does anyone have any insight on this It would be very helpful.
