Vulva/vaginal swelling/shrinkage

I am 27yrs old & have never been pregnant. I just had sex for the 1st time in 4yrs - twice, with my partner of 7yrs., without a condom. Within 2 days I got my normal period. One week after that (2wks from intercourse), I notice that my clitoris is slightly swollen, and there is a lighter pink colored tissue surrounding my vaginal opening just on the inside of the opening. It looks as if my opening is swollen shut almost completely due to this extended tissue. Also, my vulva has shrunk. The vulvar skin is soft & pliable, like it is loose. And, it has shrunk down, to where my clitoris isn't 'covered', or, 'protected' by the vulvar lips anymore. I saw a nurse practitioner at a free woman's clinic. She said that she noticed the swelling, etc...but that she wasn't worried about it. She did not give me any reason why this could have occured. It has been 6 days since this started, 2 since I saw the nurse. I had a pap smear done - too soon for the results. Should I be worried? Could it be an infection? I'm really scared. Although it doesn't look too strange, it is highly abnormal for me. Also, within the 2wk time period that I had sex & my period, I used a vinegar/water douche twice. I usually only use one approx. once a year. Could this matter? Thanks!
