Birth Control Pill, Spider Veins, Acne, and Getting off of itFrom: Alice (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 29 Jul 2003 15:40:48 -0500 (CDT)
Hi there. I originally went on the pill (Estrostep) due to having irregular periods (usually one every two months) and acne. After six months, the acne stopped, as did the irregular periods and everything was in the clear until the year mark of my taking that particular pill, my school clinician switched me to Ortho Tricyclen without much of an explanation. I was told it would be better for me in terms of the acne, etc. I've been taking it since January now, and right after I began taking it, I developed acne again which only just cleared up, it being 6 months later again. However, I've begun to develop spider veins and it almost seems as if my skin has become thinner. Do you think this could be attributed to the switch in birth control? I seemed to be doing fine on the Estrostep, and now that my face is clear on the OrthoTricyclen, I'm concerned if I switch birth control again or get off of it (which would be ideal) I'll start breaking out severely again and my periods will become irregular again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
