question about clomid and irregular menstruation

I am 35 years old and have always had irregular menses. I successfully conceived my first child about 2 years ago on the first cycle of clomid at 50mg (preceded by Provera).

Recently, I started clomid again, but without Provera as I had my period. At the end of the first cycle of clomid, I had a very faint period, really just spotting. The nurse at the doctor's office said I should count the first day of spotting as day 1. However, all my research had indicated that day 1 is the first day of real (red) bleeding. I decided not to take the clomid immediately, waiting for real bleeding to begin, but it didn't, and so I ended up not taking clomid that cycle.

I finally had a proper period. On day 5 I was still bleeding heavily, but I started the clomid (50mg) anyway. I took clomid on days 5-9. Today is day 10 and I am still bleeding heavily.

What can I expect this cycle? Will I ovulate? Did I take the clomid at the wrong time? Do I have any hopes of conceiving this cycle?

Should I bother testing for ovulation if I continue bleeding? Is it possible to ovulate when I am bleeding? Was it okay to skip a cycle of clomid?

I'd appreciate any advice!

Thanks, al
