The generic brand for Mircette is Kariva - is that what you switched to? People have different opinions about generic brands of BCP. The FDA only requires a generic drug to be within 75% of the same dose as the equivalent brand name drug. With most medications, that's not a big deal, but with a very low-dose birth control pill like Mircette, that could make a big difference in how it effects you. It is probably still effective as contraceptive, but I would take a pregnancy test after missing your period. If you have breakthrough bleeding or spotting during the active pills, that's a good indication that your hormone levels are too low, and it may not be as effective as contraception. Kariva may also have different inactive ingredients, like food coloring or binding agents, that some people are allergic to. Did your doctor or insurance company insist that you switch to the generic, or is it your choice?
