Re: breakthrough bleeding and discharge followed by a missed periodFrom: H (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 21 Jun 2003 08:45:29 -0500 (CDT)
You are probably not pregnant, because you are using two forms of birth control. If you don't want to wait another month to take a test at your doctor's office, buy a home pregnancy test from a pharmacy or supermarket and take it yourself. It's only about $10-$15 for a 2-pack, and it would ease your mind a lot. Breakthrough bleeding is common on low dose pills like Mircette because of the very low estrogen level. It doesn't necessarily mean that it is less effective, but I would keep using condoms with it. I took Mircette for 8 months with no problems, and then I had breakthrough bleeding for several months. My Dr. switched me to Nuvaring, and that solved the problem. You should ask your gyno to try a different prescription for you. If you tell her how much the bleeding stresses you out, she'll probably give you something with a little more estrogen or maybe the OrthoEvra patch or Nuvaring. Of course, it could be just stress because you've started having sex and there are a lot of concerns that go along with that. If you worry too much about being pregnant, that can cause you to miss your period, and then you'll worry even more.
