I know something is wrongFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netTue, 10 Jun 2003 13:40:39 -0500 (CDT)
Over the past year, my hair has been falling out. I am 20 years old. I went to my doctors and had hormone tests, thyroid, pelvic ultrasounds, pelvic cat scans, etc. Just last week I went to my regular doctor again and she had more blood samples drawn for hormone, testosterone, prolactin, fsh, tsh, lh etc. She told me that the blood shows nothing and that I should see a dermatologist for my hair loss. I have been dealing with trying to comb my hair in certain ways so you can't see that I have bald spots and that I have about 50% less hair than what I had a year ago. I also have excess body hair, and I haven't had a period since early April. I am not sexually active and not pregnant, so that is not what's going on. I have gained a bunch of weight which is basically all in my abdomen area. My doctor told me to see a dermatologist for my hair, but I feel like these doctors think I am just "another crazy, whiny woman." To me I really feel that something is wrong, but with all these tests they have done, they insist that nothing is wrong. But I mean, I have always had thick, thick hair which runs in all the women in my family. Not only this, but losing hair coupled with my other symptoms, does not tell me "just go to a dermatologist." It is so frustrating. After seeing doctors, I have been trying to just ignore it, but I don't know. I cannot just keep going to different doctors and telling them the same thing, and then, they jut keep telling me nothing is wrong. Should I see an endocrinologist?
