Pregnancy tests measure the amount of Hcg which the embrio emits after implantation. If you are not pregnant, than your body should not have any of this hormone in it. You can take a home pregnancy test if you are concerned. The tests your family members may have taken perhaps were not as effective as the ones on the market today. Also, if they took the test too early it likely didn't work. Some people don't know how to count their cycle days. There is a small chance that the test could say negative and be incorrect if the amount released by the pregnancy was not high enough. However each day you are pregnant this hormone level rises quite a lot. They say if the test comes out negative and you still have not started in about a week or two, to try the test again. Also, some people might not read the directions fully or the test results correctly. Even if there is only a light colored line, in the correct box/circle, you are still pregnant. Take care.
