Your doctor can do a yearly test for FSH on the days you take your inactive pills to see if you are menapausal when you reach the age you think you might be. The pill is now considered a good option for perimenapausal women approaching these difficult years due to hormone imbalances as the body slows down hormone production. That is totally up to you. The other thing is, Since your body has had the pill your whole life, it basically hasn't been doing its "normal" job. Also, PMS and such tend to get worse the older you are (due to hormone levels changing). So by quitting the pill, your body has to adapt to the loss in extra hormones that is has become totally accostomed to and dependent on for reliability , cycle control, and even hormone levels. Basically, this means you have not really ever had true menstrual cycles since you were 18. (you don't ovulate on the pill). Now your body has lost the hormones you normall take and is also trying to work hard to ovulate......and since you are not used to the hormone changes that come with ovulating each month, it makes it harder on you to go through it I think. Well butrin is good for the emotional stuff but you might want to try something else stronger if you can tolerate the side effects and do not want to continue with the pill any longer. TAke care!
