Severe cramping months after IUD removedFrom: Anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 21 May 2003 16:53:34 -0500 (CDT)
I am 26, 1 pregnancy, 1 child. I had a copper IUD for a little over three months. I experienced severe cramps, leading to expulsion. In the four months that followed, I have had 4 completely normal cycles, except for the fact that about 5-7 days before the start of my period I would always wake up one night to severe cramps, just like the ones that lead to the IUD expulsion. These cramps feel as bad as labor contractions except they are continuous, lasting a few hours if untreated. If I take ibuprofen at the first sign of this pain, it goes away within 30-45 minutes and does not return again until the next cycle. I never had cramping like this prior to the IUD. I don't think I have an infection, as I don't have constant pain nor do I have a fever. Just wondering what might be causing this and if I need to be concerned.
