Pregnant or do i need to switch pills?From: aimee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 11 May 2003 23:02:35 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 18 yrs old and in my third month of Orthotricyclen. On Sun May 11, I started the "inactive" pills. I am supposed to get my period. I've had unprotected sex about 20 times in the past 3 weeks. On Weds I started lightly bleeding/spotting (not enough to use a tampon) and had minor menstrual cramps, both of which completely stopped on sunday morning. For the past week and a half at the most, i have been extremely emotional. My mood swings are severe and I cry for no reason. My breasts are extremely sore and my nipples have become extremely dark, purplish color (almost bruised looking). The area around my nipples have become much broader and bumpy. They are so tender that I cannot sleep on my stomach. I have had the worst headache for about a week, nothing helps. I have been wanting to eat nothing but pickles or cream cheese . I am exhuasted. I sleep for 15 hours a night, and am still exhausted. I'm extremely bloated and feel as if i've gained 10 lbs. I have to urinate constantly, yet there is never any in my bladder. I have to go so bad it wakes me up at night. I have NEVER before had any symptoms of my period. I usually bleed to fill a normal tampon, and have average cramping for the first day. I have never had: sore breasts, spotting during ovulation, mood swings or bloating. I am scheduled to start Loestrin 1.5 on Sunday. Is there a chance I could be pregnant or is this most likely that I need to switch pills? I also am wondering if one does get pregnant while on the pill would that cause a miscarriage or a birth defect because of all the hormones?
