Birth Control pill level

Do the different hormone levels in BCP's have anything to do with their effectiveness? I feel like the stronger ones would be better for surpressing ovulation because the body would think it's "more pregnant", and also, that if a pill was missed, a larger dose would stay in the body longer? Or does the dose only matter in terms of finding the PERFECT match for the amounts in your own body? Just curious......Thanks!
