I am also 18 and am having this same problem. My period comes for a 3 weeks then leaves for a week. It is frustrating me terribly. Anyways, I went to my first gyn visit the other day to see if there was something wrong. She said nothing looked wrong but she did a pap test and is planning on doing an ultrasound soon. She did not seem to concerned which is good. Every situation is different though so I would advise you to find a gynecologist who will better understand your problem than your family doctor.
