Strange external bleeding due to birth control pill?

I'm 23, and considering going on the birth control pill again, but I am hesitant since I had strange side effects previously. My first birth control experience involved bleeding during intercourse -- but NOT from the inside of my vagina. Basically, the external skin between my vaginal opening and urethra became inflammed, red, with deep red almost blood-clot looking splotches that were evidentally below the skin's surface. It almost looked like a ball of tissue of sorts had formed, about the size of a quarter, but it was not hard or circular. A small amount of blood would seep from the surface of my skin in this area during intercourse. I went to the doctor, and he said he didn't know what it could be, but he didn't feel it was an STD, (I was with my first partner, and he had been tested, everything negative), and that I was probably bruised. BUT, this occured one month after being on the pill, and it kept up until I stopped taking it. It worried me that the doctor had no explanation, and I'm almost positive this was pill related, since nothing like that had happend before. Is this a problem with the tissue in my vulva? Should I not go on the pill again? Please, has anyone ever experienced this too? Thank you.
