Re: Birth Control and Migraines - Beth please read!!From: Sue_ellen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 16 Mar 2003 19:06:03 -0600 (CST)
I had exactly the same thing happen to me, although I was not so lucky.. for six years I was on the pill, and suffered migranes the whole time... my migranes were not diagnosed as being connected to the pill and no one ever told me there could be a problem. I had all the same migrane symptoms as you. Then one day I got a migrane, and I lost the use of my left side for two days. It was a similar symptoms of a stroke. Because the doctors now had to look seriously into why I got the migranes and what had happened it was found that the oestrogen in the pill had caused the migranes. I am actually oestrogen intollerant, which means I can not put any extra oestrogen in my body, other that what is there naturally. It took me a long time to get better, and I am at high risk of it happening again. I have to take medication every day and be so careful about what I do and anything I take. I also had horrid side effects on depo, so I tried Implanon (progestersone implant) and now I have an IUD which I think is the safest as far as side effects relating to migrane, weight gain and those sorts of things. So don't get angry, dont go off suing the doctor ... by all means get a second opinion ... but just remember what I have said though, because it is a real problem that exists.
