SPORANOX and contraceptive pillsFrom: Nadia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 13 Feb 2003 17:07:19 -0600 (CST)
Does Itraconazole affect effectiveness of monophasic 0.002mg etinyn-estradiol contraceptive pill (Europe brand name -Loette)? I have to take sporanox for 24 days, my doctor said no problem with the pill, gynecologyst wasn't so sure about it and dermatologyst said it was very risky. Who to believe? On the sheet of the pill it says only that Fluconazole and simalar drugs are known to INCREASE plasma levels of estrogen hormone... nothin is said on the (LONG!) list of interactions and warning on the Sporanox sheet... Plus, if there's loss of effect, how to behave? The Sporanox treatment is even longer than the blister itself, so i don't know when to begin it. Please...
