Skipping my period w/ birth control

Hi, my out of town boyfriend is coming into town next week, and it just so happens to fall when I'm supposed to have my period! So, obviously, I want to try and skip it. Here is my question--would it be better to just stop taking my pills a week early and have an early period, then start back on a new pack of pills the week he is going to be in town. Or, is it better to just start a new pack that week and just skip my period altogether. Or, should I skip it, and then stop taking them the week after so I have a period, just a week late? Do either one of these options pose a problem as far as birth control effectiveness goes? (That is my main concern...the effectiveness) Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it!
