Re: pregnant and scaredFrom: Gretchen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 29 Jan 2003 08:01:56 -0600 (CST)
The majority of your prenatal visits do not involve pelvic exams. You urinate in a cup to get your protein levels checked, blood pressure and chest exam, measuring of height of fundus (top of uterus) and they listen to the baby's heartbeat. The only pelvic exams I remember were a pap smear (b/c I was due for annual), Group B strep swab (taken at 38 or so weeks), and during last month or so the doctor would feel for dilation at each visit. If you have a herpes breakout at the time of delivery, you would need to have a c-section to avoid passing on to the baby (herpes can cause infection in eyes.) Breakouts during appointments would not be a big deal.
