Persistent or recurrent bacterial infections are usually the result of a recurring trigger, such as menses, sex, douching, or allergic reactions to some exogenous allergan. Immunosuppression can also be a contributing factor, such as (but not limited to) diabetes, immunosuppressive medications, HIV, chronic liver disease and so on.
