PMDDFrom: Rhay (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 8 Dec 2002 15:11:38 -0600 (CST)
I am concerned that I may have PMDD. I am 23 years old and my periods have been irratic since I started having them at 16. My PMS has become increasingly worse over the past few years. Now it is so severe that I experience drastic mood swings ranging from extreme depression to agitation to rage and irrationality. At the time that this is happening, I am often unable to realize that it is due to my period, and I often feel as though I am literally losing my mind. I spend days at a time in bed crying uncontrollably, and I have even hit suicidal lows. This only seems to happen within the eight or ten days before I start my period, and it lasts for the first few days of my menstural flow. Recently it became so overwhelming to me that I was unable to show up for my first day at a new job. It has also put a terrible strain on my personal relationships. I was unaware of PMDD until a friend mentioned it to me recently. I did some internet searches and the information I found was very helpful. The symptoms sound identical to what I have been going through. I live in a small town and it is difficult to find doctors who take this kind of thing seriously. Every doctor I have been to has suggested birth control pills, but they tend to make me very nauseated, no matter what time of day I take them. I want to know if you can recommend any specialists in my area who have dealt with PMDD. I live in Camden, SC, but I am willing to travel to seek help. Thank you.
