Re: Afraid of pelvic/sedationFrom: Sarah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 4 Dec 2002 18:17:01 -0600 (CST)
Pelvic exams are just a fact of life for women. They aren't so bad, once you get over the initial squeamishness. Knowing what to expect is a big help. You can read about that here on this site. Do you have any specific fears? A nurse or other medical assistant will be present in the room. Plus, you can bring a sympathetic friend or relative to stay in the room to give you moral support, and keep you from fearing abuse. A mild sedative will not make you fall asleep or unable to react, it will just make you calmer. But if I were you, I'd just try to learn about the process as much as possible.
