Hymenectomies are a last resort, as they can cause scarring, and are usually not necessary. You may be confusing this in your mind with a clitorectomy, a proceedure with no clinical purpose that can destroy a woman'a sex drive. The best way to open the hymen is the old fashioned way, through sex, but that seems to be a problem in your case, so seek you gyn's assistance.
