I am from Germany. Whenever I am at any doctor's here in the US and they offer me a robe, I turn it down, because I feel much more ridiculous and undignified with it than without it. Unless the exam room is airconditioned to freezing temps, in which case I will wrap myself in whatever there is. :-) However, I do not assume that the room is a/c'ed to humiliate me, or that it's part of the dr's evil plan to - well, whatever. My body is not model beautiful, but it doesn't need hiding. And if a doctor need to get his/her kick from looking at me when I'm sick, well, my sympathy. I'm sure there are some, but they would be such sad buggers that I wouldn't want to spend too much time thinking about it. :-) If, however, one made me feel uncomfortabel, I'd just walk out and find a different one. There are plenty, and I have the coice, after all.
