abnormal periods/pain

I had an ileostomy done in March for crohns disease. Recovery went great. Then in August, I ended up having emergency surgery for bowel adhesions. I have had a tough time bouncing back. Was recommended not to lift anything over 15lbs for the first 10-12wks.

About the past 5 months, I have noticed my periods have been unusually heavy and long. Like 9 days long, and still bleeding enough to soak a pad on the 6th day. I used to be able to get away with a regular tampon, but if that's all I use, I soak thru it in a half hour. I have had the blood run down my leg, like I'm cut, and I've NEVER been like that. My gi said It could be because I've been sick for so many years and that will suppress the normal cycles, I could just be back to normal now that I'm sick. I wasn't like this before.

Also when I ovulate, I'm getting pain on my right side for the past 3 months. I also have had lower cramps last night and today.

I'm having some pain when I have sex, and the exterior feels a little "burning" like. I'm worried there is some sort of infection. Cannot get into gyn until next friday.

Any ideas of why my body is like this? Is this normal?
