Can the pill affect blood sugar levels?

I'm hypoglycemic (low blood sugar)and I have been managing that fairly well the past few years with a high protein/low carbohydrate diet which seemed to be working well. However, last week I went on the pill. Since then I've noticed my appetite has increased quite a bit and if I don't eat often, I can become nauseous. Is it possible that the pill is affecting my blood sugar in some way? If that's the case, is it like most other side effects in the sense that it should subside within a couple months? Or will it continue as long as I'm on the pill?
