Menstruation Problems

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you can advise me? My problem is a long standing one.

I am 30 years old and approximately 25-35 pounds overweight. I have asthma and also problems with my period, I am 30 years old and not married. I live in South America.

I went to the several doctors(3) and they all just look and me and said I am o.k. But I have been doing a lot of reading and know that I have asthma. In the morning part when it is cold I wake up and cannot breathe, much less move, and my chest is so tight and also I am wheezing very very hard. To the various doctors I went they all give me different tablets/medication but the one they always give to me is prednisolone. (Two of the doctors I went to on a long term basis, that is I went several times over a 3 year period, one after the other).

Because of the above I have stopped going to see them and I have put myself on prednisolone and also on the inhaler. I know I am not supposed to used the two together but it is the only thing that helps me when I am wheezing and can't breathe. The inhaler only works for a very short time and prednisolone takes too long to work so I end up taking both at the same time whenever I have an attack, which seems to be getting closer and closer.

My other problem is my period, ever since I was a young girl I would skip my period, sometimes I would get it like 6 or 7 times for the year. I went to a doctor when I was fourteen (the first time it happened and he put me on a one month pill and said I am fine). Wheneve I get my period it would last from 3 - 6 days. However, from last year I am getting it like four months, skip four months etc, the problem is that when I get it after four months I get it like for a long time, the last time I got it in the latter part of January and it ended quite in april. (It is not continuosly, but i get it everyday).

Since April when it stopped I got it on monday of this week, it still has not stopped and I am afraid that It may continue for another couple of months. (I should mention that the first time it happened I went to see a woman doctor, and it took me almost four hours to see her and she only saw me for about 2 minuetes (I am not exaggerating the time here) and she told me that I have this problem because I am overweight and that when I lose weight this problmem would go. She was very nasty to me and I don't want to see another doctor. (and she was a female doctor). I have always been a bit chubby, but not fat, it is only the past couple of years that I have put on so much weight).

When I get my period, it comes in clot and it is a lot. I noticed that when I don;'t take prednisolone that I don't get it as much, try as I can I can;t do without the prednisolone, I am very sich, coughing all night, wheezing, tight chest, you name it. I end up taking both prednisolone and the inhaler (salabutamol).

I am working, but at my workplace I have blocked off the air conditioner and has a fan in the office, and also at home we don't have a/c and I try to avoid using the fan, also I have almost completely stopped drinking cold beverages/water.

I am not sure what to do. Can you please help me.

Anxiously awaiting a response. Please don't tell me to go and see another doctor, because I won;t do it. Atleast not here, if I get an opportunity to go to another Caribbean country then I would consider going to the doctors there, but not here in Guyana.

Purani.
