I have never heard of being refused a referral to a fertility specialist because of being 37 years old. This is when fertility begins to decline at a faster rate, so logically this is when women BEGIN to see a fertility specialist. Keep in mind that your insurance plan might not pay for fertility treatments, however. At the very least, your GP should allow a referral to a gynecologist! My advice is to either get a new GP or complain very loudly to your state legislators, insurance company, insurance regulators and consumer agencies. In my state (Massachusetts) there is now a law stipulating that women cannot be denied a referral for an annual exam by a gynecologist. In fact, they don't need to get the referral now. Any follow up treatment necessary based on the outcome of that exam MUST be supplied by the gynecologist without a referral from the GP.
