slight bleeding between periods..HELP!!!

I am having slight bleeding between periods. Its been going on for about a week in very small amounts each day almost like a discharge but i think its blood because its dark. However in my research the only things related to this sympton is an infection or stds like clamydia however i dont have any of the other symptoms related to those stds or infections like pain while urinating swelling or itchiness. Well i do get itches in the area but only like i would on any other part of my body, its not an unbearable itch rather something a simple scratch would take care of. Could someone please tell me what the symptoms of the slight bleeding between cycles or a dark discharge could mean?
