Amenorrea but not underweightFrom: Trisha (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 Aug 2002 13:28:31 -0500 (CDT)
Almost three years ago I lost my period and haven't seen it anywhere. I was slightly overweight and had started an exercise and diet regimen that caused my to lose about thirty pounds. I did drop to a normal, healthy weight when my period first disappearded. My doc told me it was perfectly normal for this to happen for a couple of months. Excited with my new figure I choose to have a breast augmentation. My doctor decided this further delayed my period. Today, my weight flucuates about 10-12 pounds yearly. I maintain a very, very healthy diet (my husband says too healthy but I consume atleast 1400 calories a day)as well I still exercise about 3-4 times a week, certainly not excessive. I gain weight, I think, because about once a week I have a vicious binge, sugar craving that overcomes me...I will eat, eat, and eat (but I don't purge). It is so compulsive I am sure it must be hormonal. I had my thyroid tested about a year ago and doc said my blood sugar was slightly low at the time but nothing alarming. Still, with these weird problems, I have to think there is something wrong with me. Oh also, I have extremely severe water retention when I eat what most people would consider "all american meals". An example of this would be when I eat cereal for breakfast, a sandwich and chips for lunch, maybe a cookie, then a dinner at a restaurant. This certainly isn't overindulgence so I don't understand why my body reacts the way it does with retaining excessive water. Anyway, could all these symptoms be associated with one disorder? Someone please answer if you think this sounds familar. I am afraid I have a misdiagnosed disorder!
