I'm 23 and sexually active. In mid-July I was diagnosed with my first bladder infection and put on Bactrium. There were white blood cells & blood in my urine. By the time I went to the doctor the pain in my back was intense. After a couple days, I felt better and my symptoms went away. 3 1/2 weeks later, the feelings of urgency returned. I went to the same UTC doctor the next day. He said there were white blood cells still in my urine. He put me on Cipro. It didn't help and near the end of the prescription my back began to hurt again, though not as severe. I called the office and was given a prescription for Macrobid. I have two pills left to take. My back has hurt most of the past week. I felt better for a few days, but most of today the urgency had returned and I had a feeling of pressure in my abdomen, along with the back pain. I feel somewhat nauseous, but I know that is a side effect of Macrobid. I did an at home urine test this evening that said white blood cells are still present. For the last few days I have had some occasional itching. Right after a shower it burns when I urinate, like the skin is sensitive. I've read being on antibiotics can cause a yeast infection. I don't have any unusual secretions/smells. My period should start Friday. I'm unsure what to do next. Is it unusual to have to try so many antibiotics? Should I call the UTC physician for more antibiotics, or make a doctor appointment - and should it be with an OB/GYN or an Internist? Can I wait until my period has come and gone? Thanks so much!
