I'm very upset with the entire situation and scared to death! The recommendation for paps are when you become sexually active or turn 18, whichever occurs first....unless you have a problem which requires one sooner. Most MD's will perform a pap smear if you are placed on birth control. There is nothing to be afraid of. It does not hurt. It is not a fun thing by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't bad. Good luck.
