I have an embarrassing problemFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 May 2002 17:36:18 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I have a problem...I'm 21 and have only had one gyn exam in the past and although I was sexually abused as a child, I have never been sexually active. I have an appointment with a gynecologist because my family doctor thinks I have endometriosis. My problem is that I am constantly in pain and I have a lot of irregular bleeding...it stops for a couple of days, then starts again. I'm afraid to keep my appointment because I my first exam was very painful and I'm also afraid that the gynecologist will want to do an exam while I am still bleeding. Is it normal for an exam to be done during this time, or can I tell refuse to let him do it? Is there any benefit to allowing him to examine me while I'm having my period. I was hoping it would stop, but it is going on 2 1/2 weeks now and I don't think it will stop before tomorrow morning? Also, is it normal to be scared of these exams? What can I do to make them less painful? Thank you?
