As this is the young woman forum, I am not sure how old you are. I had one at my first gynecologist visit (age 22), but doctors did not do another one until I was in my 40's. Some doctors do this annually beginning at age 50 to screen for colo-rectal cancer; some doctors beginning at 40. If you have a family history of colon cancer, other tests or earlier screening perhaps might be recommended. Colon cancer can be completely cured if caught early; I do know of one woman who had it in her 20's, and unfortunately it was not caught until a later stage.
