New to birth control in general; experiencing 'spotting'?

I am new to birth control... I have never been sexually active before. I saw my doctor, got the pill (Ortho tri-cyclen), and I've been taking it without problems since then (about two months ago).

Today I got my period (I think)... four days early. So I still have four green "blanks" left to take before I start the next package. But should I start the next package anyway since I have my period? Or is it probably just spotting and I should continue with the four green ones?

Please help as I don't know what to do, and am scared of messing up... do I start the new package in time with my period or do I wait and keep green pills?
