Re: Exam FearsFrom: vw (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 7 Apr 2002 16:54:54 -0500 (CDT)
>I don't know how old you are. But don't worry! I must be in a minority too, took me 9 years to prepare myself, I am still a virgin technically, (30) but thanks to my curiosity and explorations of my own body I had my first exam 3 years ago. In fact due the exam I am totally sexually liberated and I am looking forward to my 'first time'. However I know just how you feel. Although I may be a little different. It wasn't the exam itself that bothered me, and being a virgin made it more difficult, I resented the fact that the letter assumed I was sexually active when I wasn't, I felt cornered. I spoke to my Doctor, she asked if I was afraid ,no, but my main problem was embarrassment, that I coudn't get round being viewed in such an incredibly exposed way, by a doctor and not a lover. Oddly enough I found the thought arousing, like sex, but the reality was beyond my power to go through. I practised the positions I would be in, I tried to imagine it; finally I talked to a work colleague who was student of human biology, she was brilliant and it was her that just tipped me to go. I have never been more embarrassed or nervous before of anything, BUT when I got into the room, everything just melted away. I was treated as if I was really sensible to come, it seemed so normal and somehow all the embarrassment disappeared, except when I was fully exposed for longer than I liked. I pretended my lower half wasn't me, turned my head and waited. My advice is get to know your body, explore find pleasure, be comfortable and then talk to people or get a really close friend to come with you. Give yourself time, but keep working on it. Find a Doctor you like.
