Overweight teen needs help with understanding her body...From: Angie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 7 Apr 2002 04:24:45 -0500 (CDT)
OK, well here goes: I am almost 17 years old and I am overweight. I am having a lot of problems with menstruation and I need some answers because I can't get any at home. I believe I got my first period at the age of 12, although they have been so rare, I can't really remember. I go several months without having one--the longest so far has been 14 months. I am a virgin, so I'm sure it has nothing to do with my sexuality. Well the past couple of days, I have been getting some tissue (my mom calls them clots) for what I believe to be a "period" (first in about 8 months)but I've had no blood. Just the clots. I've tried to do a lot of research to find out what is wrong with me, but I haven't really came up to any conclusions. I have many symptoms of PCOS, but I don't know because my mom refuses to take me to see a gynocologist. She has "issues" in accepting that I may have problems. She just tells me it is normal and that it is all due to me being overweight. Is that all it is? OR could it possibly be a serious problem? I really need some support because my mother gives me none. Thank you for your help!
