I thought that young women didn't need them as part of the routine gyn exam. You just get them when you're older (40s-50s maybe). I have had rectal exams because I experienced bad anal tearing during childbirth. It feels strange, like you really need to move your bowels. I don't like them, but they don't hurt. Don't worry.
