If you don't feel comfortable taking a synthetic fiber agent, you may want to consider a high-fiber cereal. Kashi "Good Friends" cereal has 8 grams of fiber in a 3/4 cup serving... and it worked wonders for me. I never even realized I was constipated until I started eating this cereal and experienced regular BM's for the first time in a long time.
