What is my "cycle"? Am I correct in thinking that I count the number of days between periods to know how many days are in my cycle? (First day of last period to first day of current period?)

Also, I have read that 3-7 days of bleeding is normal, but bleeding for eight days or more is not normal. Is this true?

If the cycle (number of days from period to period) lasts longer than 28 days, is there cause for concern? If I was counting right, my last cycle was 44 days long. I am going to be careful about counting my next few cycles (something I have never done before) to see how long they are.

If they are also in the forty day range, could something be wrong with me? OR could that just "be me"?
