When do I need Dr's help?

I have never had an easy time with my period; they are almost always extremely painful. I also suffer from headaches, backaches, and general malaise during this time.

I take OTC Midol, which I have found helps me more than anything, but all it does is take the edge off my symptoms - I still suffer quite a bit. The Midol brings me relief from PMS symptoms, but once I start bleeding my pain increases and the Midol doesn't help as much.

How do I know if my pain is abnormal?

I am hesitant to see a doctor if I don't need to-this is, after all, something all women go through. But I am not sure at what point the pain requires attention.

Any suggestions?
