Hemorrhoids (was: Fleshy Bumps around Anus)From: anonymous@obgyn.netTue, 2 Apr 2002 11:52:16 -0600 (CST)
I did see the doctor today about those bumps - finally got worried enough about them, I guess. It was an embarassing and kinda scary experience, but I had a good doctor and she made it as easy on me as she could. Also, I think in the long run I will find relief- from the symptoms and from the worry that something worse was wrong with me. She said that what I had were big hemorrhoids, plus some skin tags (from old hemorrhoids or fissures, I guess). The hemorrhoids are tender to the touch, and when I have bowel movements, but they are not currently thrombosed or bleeding, she said. She said that these could be a surgical issue- but first she wanted to make sure I was having regular bowel movements, which I guess I have not been. She gave me prescriptions for colase (sp) and anusol, and said to let her know how things are going in about two weeks. At that time, we could talk about removal if necessary. If the hemmorhoids are so large - is surgery the only likely relief for them? Do they go away by themselves? (My doc said they could). And if so, do they go completely away or do they just get a little smaller? If anyone here deals with hemorrhoids, or has had surgery, or needs surgery, I would like to hear from them about this. I am uncertain what to expect at this point. I don't think I want to live with these huge lumps forever, and I am afraid they won't go away by themselves.
