As Dr. Chudacoff said , "You get what you pay for" I personally would want the most experienced medical practioner (MD not nurse) for a PAP. A woman in my town went to a female nurse for a pap each year for six years. Some PAPs came back abnormal but she was told not to worry. She later presented with a cervical lesion and bleeding, again told no problem. She died at the age of 45. Her family won a big settlement in court, but it doesn't make this avoidable death easier to take. Doctors and nurses are individuals like anybody else. A female isn't necessarily more likely to sympathize with you. She may have never had a menstrual cramp or been pregnant. She might have a high threshold of pain and pelvic exams don't bother her. Her personal style might be that people should get out of bed and stop being malingerers. There are caring females and males. Pick the one with the best credentials and experience who happens to be a decent human being.
