Most women want a female practitioner because they THINK they want a 'sympathetic' clinician, when they actually want an 'empathetic' clinician (not someone who can say: that doesn't hurt, I've had it done many times, but rather: this might hurt and if it does tell me and I'll change what I am doing.) My opinion, more female practitioners are sympathetic and more males are empathetic. Generalization, but just my humble opinion. The nurse should have stopped, repositioned, or proceeded slowly. Your 'shy' cervix may be related to a pelvic mass pushing the uterus to the side, or endometriosis causing shortening of the suspensory ligaments of the uterus. Without a thorough pelvic exam, then an ultrasound is in order. I have a hugh respect for Planned Parenthood, but you DO get what you pay for. If you want more compassion and patience go to a private physician.
