Hi are you on any pill now if so you can just start it when your supposed to start your new pack. If you are just starting again for the first time in a couple of months then the doc usually tell patients to start on Sunday after their period starting even if you still are bleeding. This is what I got told I am a Sunday start. And as for protection the insert say after 7 days after starting it for the first time (not continuing from one BC pill to another) but again the docs tell you to use back up for a whole cycle just to be safe just in case you ovulated early which can happen (sometimes a womans cycle can vary month to month) but after the first pack you would be protected from then on.
