severe cramps in stomach and lower back

Hi, I am 27 year old mother of three and have recently been to see my doctor but feel I didn't find out any answers. A week and a half ago I have severe menstal cramping and terrible backache. I got my period and it was normal. Now, a week later and I still have major cramping and back ache. It never goes away and at times, I get sharp pains mainly on the left side. My doctor chaecked for bladder/kidney infection but said there wasn't one. He prescribed Tylenol #2 with codiene and told me if it was not better in a week, then he would run some tests. Do you have any idea of why this is happening? I am literally doubled over and my back is killing me. I am on birth control (Triphasyl) and have had no problems with it in the past. I feel that my doctor was not listening and did not really check to see if it could be anything else. He said that sometimes an ovarian cyst can cause this but did not seem to want to investigate any further. Please help...any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, confused
