Dear Sad Mom, I hope you get this message. I know it has been several days since you posted. Don't be sad! You did what you could do. You did wayyyyyy more than my mom did when I was 11. In fact, my mom was so against me using tampons and I, too had plans to go to a waterpark for my birthday. The day before my 12th birthday I road my bike to the store and bought tampons myself and read, read, read on everything to make sure I was doing it correctly. I was so paranoid of getting TSS that I changed them all the time. This was all without the help of my mother or anyone for that matter. So, I applaud you for teaching your daughter! I didn't tell my mom that I was using tampons until several months later. Sincerely, Joy

She tried until she was in tears, then I started trying to coach her through it, but she couldn't do it. That's when we headed for the hospital. It was very traumatic for both of us, and I blame myself for not making sure that she really understood how to use them. And for not realizing that an 11 year old is really not mentally or emotionally ready to cope with all the pandora's box of issues that go hand in hand with becoming a woman. Don't let this happen to anyone you know. Thanks for letting me vent. Sad Mom.
